Safe Lighting for Motorists and Pedestrians

Motorists and pedestrians are safer now in the Matoks area when crossing the N1 highway, thanks to BEKA Schréder’s LED lighting solution.

BEKA Schréder is proud to have supplied an energy-efficient LED lighting solution for the N1 Botlokwa Road Safety Project in the Matoks area. The key purpose of this project was to provide safety to pedestrians and motorists by reducing conflict zones through the introduction of pedestrian bridges and diamond interchanges. In order to provide a safer passage of motorists and pedestrians through the area, lighting was of the essence. By providing a compliant lighting installation with a good light uniformity, visual safety and easier visual identification of risks is ensured.

BEKA Schréder’s LEDlume-midi street light luminaires were selected to provide a compliant and efficient lighting installation, to allow for effective transition lighting from dark surroundings to illuminated roads leading to the interchanges. Lighting of the area is key for the visibility of pedestrians and obstacles along the highway.

BEKA LEDstream 19W LED floodlights aesthetically illuminate the arches of the two pedestrian bridges, situated at either end of the project. The lighting of the arches acts as aesthetic markers during the night, while additionally using the indirect lighting to effectively light the bridge deck with good uniformity. This is to provide safe passage of pedestrians over the N1 highway. The lighting design was done by SMEC.

BEKA Schréder locally develops and manufactures LED lighting products, designed and suitable for local conditions. We are very proud to be associated with SANRAL, SMEC Pretoria branch and OSCON in providing a successful energy-efficient LED lighting solution for this project.
