BEKA Receives Prize at the 2010 eta Awards

As the need for electricity increases, so the need for the efficient use of energy increases. This is the purpose of the annual eta Awards, hosted by Eskom and the Department of Energy. The Awards aim to reward exceptional effort in the more efficient use of energy by individuals, students, companies and other institutions.

BEKA is proud to have been awarded a prize in the Commercial category of the 21st eta Awards, sharing the award with OSRAM. The BEKA LED team and OSRAM won a special award for the innovative lighting solution implemented at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.

The installation achieves substantial energy savings when compared with alternative solutions, as well as completely reducing on-site maintenance. The BEKA LEDbeam was specifically designed to solve the onsite challenges of illuminating the façade of the expansive arch stretching over the stadium. The combination of energy efficiency and maintenance-free has been a winning combination of the product for the stadium, and has further been implemented on other challenging projects, including the Green Point Stadium in Cape Town. The use of this product for façade and billboard lighting is ideal due to the maintenance-free operation, low energy consumption and practical mounting options.

BEKA’s Project Support Manager, Mr. Jason Smith accepted the award on behalf of BEKA, joined on stage (from left to right) by Ms. Sharleen Surtie-Richards (the MC of the evening), Mr. S. D. Dube (Non-executive Director of Eskom), Mr. B. A. Dames (Chief Executive of Eskom) as well as Mr. Grahame Boyle, Managing Director of OSRAM.

BEKA is proud to have received this award, and will strive to be a leader in providing energy efficient lighting solutions.
